Today, the VA held an important conference call on how New GI Bill 2.0 will empower them to improve processing and delivery of education benefits to veterans over the next semesters. During the call, the VA said it has deployed a new automated system that is delivering faster, more accurate payments to veterans attending school under the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
Three important notes from the VA’s update:
- The new processes and software available to VA's claims personnel replace the interim tools in use since August 2009.
- The VA said it has issued more than $8 billion in Post-9/11 GI Bill benefit payments to nearly 440,000 students and their educational institutions.
- New GI Bill claims that took 59 days to process in Fall 2009 improved to 24 days in Fall 2010.
The upgrades to the New GI Bill, which IAVA fought hard to secure passage of last year, will go into effect on August 1st, 2011 and benefit nearly 400,000 veterans who were not covered under the original 2008 legislation.
